Tomorrow night, 6-1 Warren Harding takes on 6-1 Cleveland Heights for the number one spot in the Lake Erie League standings at 7:00 p.m. in Mollenkopf Stadium. It is also Raider “throw-back jersey” night honoring the 1972 Raiders — the first team to win an Ohio AAA Championship via a playoff system. According to JJHuddle.com, this is the first time a U.S. high school football team has ever competed in a throw-back uniform. That seems unlikely but beside the point to me.
This is Harding’s first six game win streak since 2003 and they are out to avenge a 35-0 loss to Heights last year. What more fitting setting can you imagine to honor a great football tradition than this game? The weather forecast is chilly but dry. Let’s show these kids the town still cares about them and fill Mollenkopf with Harding fans — whether you were a Raider or a Panther in your day.
I was showing some guys from Cleveland around town yesterday and when we drove past the stadium their jaws dropped and they let out chorus of “wows!”
“Now that’s a serious high school football stadium” said one of the guys.
Only when it’s full I thought to myself.

I’ll be pulling for the Raiders despite now living in the Cleveland Heights school district.
