Re-using Packard HQ part 2

Share

The ink had barely dried (so to speak) on yesterday’s post when I began to hear from skeptics of the idea to reuse the old Packard/Delphi HQ on Dana as a city one-stop. It seems the owners have had some legal issues with the city in the past as outlined in the four Tribune articles below. I have no opinion on this aspect of the situation. I’m not sure there is a real estate developer in America who hasn’t had his or her share of legal battles with local governments. For me the issue is still that spending $10 million on a one-stop is not a good use of limited city resources.

Using $10,000,000 to build a building that simply makes things easier for residents to GET THINGS from their government seems a bit silly to me. Why not use that money as an offering to an actual COMPANY in the form of tax breaks to entice them to move to Warren and, I don’t know, maybe actually employ people?

You have over 200 years of energy in the form of both natural gas and oil locked in the shale beneath your feet. Figure out a way to get those companies to set up shop in Warren. And who knows? They might even be union gigs.

I apologize for just catching up on these past articles but I have a question- Does anyone remember why the old St. Joseph hosp. on Tod is not under consideration for 1stop site? It seems I heard location not right asetheticaly, if so….not many areas in Warren are anymore..it’s a huge building w parking. Thanks again for information and efforts to improve Warren-

    • The Mayor has said he is reconsidering all options, so it is possible it is on the list — although you are the first person I’ve heard suggest it.
