Blight can take any form and cruel mistreatment of animals certainly qualifies as a blight on our city.
I received an email and photos from regular WE reader Jodi Macina today. If you can help in anyway with the situation Jodi describes below, please contact her at jamacina3@gmail.com.
“I have learned of an urgent situation that requires immediate attention. A group of 6 kittens were abandoned in a Warren neighborhood, pretty much in the parking lot of the Buena Vista Cafe. Apparently, their “family” decided to relocate and heartlessly left them behind to fend and care for themselves. At least two of them are pregnant. There are at least three recently born kittens that are only about 2 months old trying to survive.
They are in a very precarious situation and their chances for survival are slim. The quickly approaching inclement weather poses yet another risk to add to the present threat of starvation, parasites, natural predators, vehicles and people who would easily do harm to vulnerable and defenseless creatures for amusement – yes, there are people out there that commit such unspeakable acts.
Shelters and organizations have been contacted. They are already overburdened with abandoned animals to the point of financial distress and cannot provide an instant remedy like a loving adopting family can. Sadly, we cannot depend on any organizations to solve this problem and save these cats.
If kind souls would be willing to adopt or foster one or more, basic veterinary care – including spaying/neutering at a steeply discounted cost – can be had for these helpless loving animals. While all cats deserve to be rescued, none in this group are feral and so each would make a wonderful addition to any person or family willing to open their hearts and their homes to one more member. Their suffering needs to end quickly and I beseech all to assist in rectifying their deplorable and unconscionable living conditions.”

My sister and I have both seen a few of these sweet kitties near the railroad tracks by Buena Vista, as we take that route often to our children’s preschool. My sister even got out to try and catch one, but they were very scared. Do u have an estimate on the discounted vet bill and is that all that would have to be paid for each kitty? It’s amazing the help you are reaching out for, for these poor stray kitties.
I don’t recall the exact amount Katie but Jodi has worked hard to find vets who are helping for minimal cost. If you’d like to help contact her at: jamacina3@gmail.com
