Bond issue and blight

At 5:00pm Monday, September 10, 3rd Ward Councilman John Brown, Jr. will host a meeting to field questions and concerns regarding the seven different pieces of bond legislation pending a City Council vote as early as September 12. The meeting will begin promptly at 5:00pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE, next to Lincoln School.

The proposed issue is a multimillion dollar bond intended to address several budget issues concerning the city’s infrastructure and finances. A key part of the bond is the proposed $10 million plus One Stop facility that would house several city departments. Councilman Brown wants to offer residents the opportunity to ask questions and voice opinions and concerns with regard to any part of the bond.

In my four terms on city council, I’ve never fielded so many calls or been approached by so many citizens about pending legislation,” Brown said.“I think it’s important that we understand the passion and concerns of our residents. My goal is to field resident in-put and deliver it to my fellow council-members and the city’s administration”

Brown will offer a breakdown of the bond’s different pieces and will then include a question and answer session. He hopes that residents from all over the city will attend, as well as other members of council and the city’s administration.

There was an interesting article in this morning’s Tribune regarding the recent TNP-sponsored presentation on the damage caused in Warren by the banks that have walked away from foreclosed houses leaving the city and county (and their taxpayers) to clean up the mess.
