Last night’s World Premiere of “Abandoned” a film by 21-year-old, Warren native, Claire Geysegem was a huge success. More than 200 people packed the YWCA for the 40-minute film on the blight of abandoned houses in Warren, how the city got in this position and what’s being done to solve the problem. This is a story everyone in Warren should see and that will soon be possible as Ms. Geysegem is putting the finishing touches on a web site that will make the film available for online viewing by week’s end. Check back here this weekend and we will provide a link to the “Abandoned” site.

Ironically, as “Abandoned” premiered, the Pamela Apartments burned (above). One of Warren’s most notorious and dangerous eyesores drew a large crowd of cheering neighbors to watch the Tod Avenue mini-slum go to its just reward.

Today at 4:00 City Council meets in a special session to examine the proposed $24.5 million bond issue, which includes $10.5 million for a new city one-stop administration building. This is a public meeting and citizens with a point-of-view will be given the opportunity to speak to their elected officials regarding the idea.

  1. I can’t wait to see it! Are the firefighters doing a controlled burn so it will be gone for good? Thank you for the meeting reminder as well! See you there!

Claire I forgot to say how great the film was. Someone next to me gave you the best compliment….’I didn’t think it would be that good.’ Your film brought a lot of energy to the neighborhood groups and you need a medal for that alone.

  3. Josh Nativio says:

I look forward to the sequel. Where we see how a 10 million dollar+ city office building stops blight and vacants!

I could be mistaken but I don’t believe I saw The Tribune Enquirer, Vindy or Y-towns news stations there. Seldom do I see them at Council. They sure show up when there’s some crap to throw though. Movie was very good. I only wish more of our leaders would have came if even to feign some interest.
